Based on Adam Nevill’s cult favourite book of the same name, The Ritual was a sleeper hit at the recent Toronto International Film Festival Midnight Madness programme. The psychological thriller could best be described as the horror film lovechild of The Blair Witch Project, The Descent and Wicker Man, with more sharply drawn characters and a darkly comedic tone (courtesy of Joe Barton’s brilliant script). Now streaming on Netflix Canada, we highly recommend you seek out the chilling film (be prepared to be thinking about it for days afterwards).
During TIFF we were delighted to sit down with the film’s stars Rafe Spall (Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom, Roadies), Rob James-Collier (Downton Abbey), Arsher Ali (Ackley Bridge, Doctor Who), and Sam Troughton (Robin Hood), as well as the film’s Director David Bruckner (V/H/S) and screenwriter Joe Barton (Humans). The following is a condensed and edited amalgamation of our video interviews with the talented men of The Ritual.
