Interview: Chucky’s Barbara Alyn Woods and Alyvia Alyn Lind

by Leora Heilbronn

It was mother-daughter day as we spoke exclusively with the winning combination of Alyvia Alyn Lind (who we previously interviewed for her turn on the Netflix series Daybreak), along with matriarch Barbara Alyn Woods. While Woods, an accomplished actress in her own right, is known as Mom to Alyvia in real life, for the first time she’s playing Mom to her on screen. On Chucky, Woods is Michelle Cross, Mayor of Hackensack (with Toronto subbing in) and mother of Aly’s Lexy Cross in the series adaptation . Hold on to your hats, as this series may have the most queer positive content on a horror series in a while, embodied by series lead Zachary Arthur as Jake Wheeler. While Aly may play his bully, his cousin Junior (Teo Briones)’s girlfriend, the actress (and Mom) grant us with permission to side instead with the psychopathic doll. Don Mancini, creator, with this franchise since 1988 (!), keeps the adaptation modern, as Chucky tackles sexuality, bullying, domestic life and murder. In our Zoom video interview, Barbara Alyn Woods and Alyvia Alyn Lind inform us as to why Chucky may the ideal series for this Halloween (and well beyond).
