While Annabeth Gish has worked before with Mike Flanagan, this one time child actress (great as the lead in Mystic Pizza), breaks out again in a big way as Dr. Sarah Gunning in Midnight Mass. Her performance and what she does is indicative of the power that science holds in the presence of fanatical religion. In fact, some of the revelations in the series are too sensitive to be discussed, so we tip-toed around them with Gish. Canadian Kristin Lehman, who is a director as well and who we had previously interviewed for the Netflix series Altered Carbon, is surprising here as Riley Flynn (Zach Gilford)’s repentant mother Annie, married to the less forgiving Ed Flynn (Flanagan regular Henry Thomas). These women are supercharged in a series that will makes viewers question everything in which they believe.
