Interview: Prey for the Devil’s Jacqueline Byers and Daniel Stamm

by Leora Heilbronn

In the shocking supernatural horror film Prey for the Devil, a nun (played expertly by Jacqueline Byers of the series Roadies and the underrated Ordinary Days), enrols in an exorcism school and then comes face to face with a demonic force which has ties to her traumatic upbringing. For context, in response to a global rise in demonic possessions, the Catholic Church reopens exorcism schools to train priests in the Rite of Exorcism. On this spiritual battlefield, an unlikely warrior rises: a young nun, Sister Ann (Byers). Although nuns are forbidden to perform exorcisms, the progressive and kindly Father Quinn (Colin Salmon of Master of None fame) recognizes Sister Ann’s gifts and agrees to train her. Thrust onto the spiritual frontline with fellow student Father Dante (played by the versatile Christian Navarro of the shows 13 Reasons Why and Vinyl), Sister Ann now finds herself in a battle for the soul of a young girl (played by astonishing newcomer Posy Taylor), who Sister Ann believes is possessed by the same demon that tormented her own mother years ago, and soon realizes the Devil has her right where he wants her… and it wants in.

I recently sat down with director Daniel Stamm and charismatic lead actress Jacqueline Byers in a Cineplex movie theatre and we chatted about all things Prey for the Devil, as well as their own supernatural encounters.
